Community parent of 3 children who have attended the Harry and Grace Steele Children's Center at Orange Coast College started a petition on change.org to preserve the Center after news of its classroom closures circulated Friday night.

Petition owner Courtney Prouty writes:

My children have grown and thrived at the OCC Harry and Grace Children’s Center, which has become a cornerstone to our family. It's a place more than just an educational institution; it’s a nurturing environment that fosters growth and development in our young ones. The imminent closure of this center impacts not just my family but also many others who rely on its services.

The Center contributes significantly to the early education landscape in our community. Thousands of families have benefitted from the center, creating a profound impact on the futures of countless children. It's not just about numbers, it's about the wholesome development of our children in an environment that ensures their overall wellbeing, safety, and fruitful learning.

Early education lays a critical foundation for a child's future, and a report by the National Education Association highlights how quality early childhood education programs produce long-term positive outcomes in children's overall cognitive and social development (National Education Association, 2019). More than ever, we need institutions like the OCC Harry and Grace Children’s Center.

We humbly ask decision-makers to reconsider the planned closure and continue supporting our children's futures. Please join us in signing this petition to keep our beloved OCC Harry and Grace Children’s Center open for the benefit of our cherished children.
